Frequently asked questions.

Frequently asked questions!

 Do you have Paid Staff?

No. All committee and Board members are VOLUNTEERS who are passionate about promoting boating & swimming safety in South Carolina.  We have hired Strictly Running to handle the registration and timing system for the event due to our size growing through the years. It was impossible to continue using stopwatches to record swimmers' times in the 2 mile open water event.  In addition, the registration process online allowed for safe collection of entry fees without any volunteers involved with money.

Who is on your Board of Directors?

Board Members are listed on the website:  www.lakemurraydamswim.org

Board Members are all volunteers who have been involved for years with the event.

How will the funds raised be used?

The initial goal more than twenty years  ago was to fund an indoor pool.  With cost projections in excess of $1,000,000 to build and operate an indoor pool, the Board of Directors recognized it may be more realistic to state  the funds would “go towards” an indoor pool.   The Board has continually searched for a partner organization interested in building an indoor facility in the Lexington community where all residents could have an opportunity to learn to swim safely. The Board hopes that through the annual event, sponsorships, and publicity that organizations and the community recognize the need for an indoor pool in the Lexington community.  Since the first open water swim, funds have always been deposited and maintained toward an indoor pool.  Previous and future funds raised will be donated once an indoor pool is built in the community. Organizations or individuals interested in partnering with us to make our vision a reality are invited to contact the Board of Directors!

How much money was transferred from Lexington One Educational Foundation to the Lake Murray Dam Swim?

Lexington One Educational Foundation issued a check in early 2020 to what is now known as the Lake Murray Dam Swim for $122,827.78 .This is the amount of money that had been raised over the last 21 years from the annual 2 mile open water swim on Lake Murray. The Board of Directors carefully safeguards these funds and has no paid staff.
